Important: Athlete classification applications must be submitted at least four (4) weeks
prior to the classification event.
Eligibility
Classification is available to athletes who are actively competing at the EC Bronze level and are preparing to progress to Silver or Gold.
Athletes must have a recognized medical condition resulting in an impairment that can be objectively measured.
EC is responsible for classifying athletes for EC-sanctioned competitions in accordance with Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) Para-Equestrian Classification Rules.
Athletes with minimal functional impairment must meet FEI criteria to compete in Para Dressage events.
As outlined in the FEI Classification Manual, Para Equestrian classification is exclusive rather than inclusive; it is designed to identify athletes who meet the criteria for classification, not to be comprehensive for all impairments.
Learning Resources: To support athletes and coaches in deepening their understanding of Para Dressage, Equestrian Canada (EC) offers free educational modules available through the ECampus.
Module 1: Introduction to Para Dressage
Available here and here for coaches/development points
Module 2: The Competition Pathway in Para Dressage
Available here for coaches/development points
