Round Table – Grant Writing Success
Join us on Monday, November 20th at 8 p.m. for Grant Writing Success with our guest speaker, Bren Pickel and BCTRA President Sharolyn Wandzura.
As an active fundraiser, Bren will be sharing her experience on getting started as a grant writer, some best practices and strategies and, rather than a daunting task, how enjoyable it can be (see bio below). Sharolyn will present an overview of the new changes to BCTRA’s 23/24 Annual Grant Cycle, which opened for applications on November 1st and closes on December 15th. You can post your questions when you register.
Unable to attend? All registrants will receive a link to the recorded presentation, open for 30 days to review. Please allow 1-2 days for the posting of the recording. All members can access all roundtable recordings on our password-protected page.
BIO: Bren Pickel has worked in some aspects of non-profit work for over 25 years. The experience and knowledge gained from program planning, project management, promotion and special events have been instrumental in supporting her most recent role as Fund Development Coordinator for the Arrowsmith Health Care Society.
Based in Central Vancouver Island, Bren had previously been on the leadership team for the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association as their Volunteer and Program Coordinator for five years. During that time, she had the privilege of working with the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association as a Communications Coordinator.
She is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and has started her CFRE. Although quite new to grant writing and research (starting last October 2022), she quickly realized a key factor to successful grant writing is knowing your organization’s unique story and how to share that story clearly. Bren is eager to share other newcomer insights and lessons learned from her first year in her diverse role as a fundraiser. She understands the multi-tasking, limited time, small budget, and predicaments of non-profit teams and very clearly within the therapeutic riding.
