Herd Health & Welfare Emergency Fund

New Funding Available! Opening January 2025

The Herd Health & Welfare Emergency Fund is designed to assist BCTRA Level A Service Providers facing unexpected health or welfare emergencies involving their equine team. Recognizing that unforeseen challenges can arise, BCTRA aims to support efforts that ensure a safe environment for all participants and team members, including equine partners. Note: This fund is not intended to cover routine operational expenses or regular maintenance costs, such as hay, feed, or vaccines.

Eligible Applicants
BCTRA Level A Members in good standing for at least 12 months are eligible to apply for funding to address emergency needs or acquire adaptive equipment.

Funding Amounts
Grants from the Herd Health & Welfare Emergency Fund are capped at $500 per application.

To apply, submit the following:

  1. A cover letter (maximum one page) detailing:
    • The emergency situation and need.
    • Who or What the funds will support.
    • When and Why the funds will be spent, emphasizing why the situation qualifies as an emergency rather than routine care.
  2. A budget outline, including supporting documents, such as a quote, invoice, or proof of payment for reimbursement (e.g., veterinary estimate).

Note: Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Successful applicants must provide a follow-up report acknowledging how the funds were utilized.

Approval Process
Applications are accepted year-round or until the fund’s budget is depleted. The BCTRA Board reviews applications on a rolling basis, and applicants will be notified of their status within 3–5 business days.
