We are looking for team players! The BCTRA Board Nomination Committee accepts applications for Board members on an ongoing basis.
Our next AGM will be held November 2026. Directors are asked to commit to a three year term. We have an immediate need for a Board Treasurer and will be looking for a second director this fall. If you have questions, please email admin@bctherapeuticriding.com
BCTRA Board Member Qualifications
- A team player with an interest in Therapeutic Riding, Para-Equestrian Athlete Development and Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies.
- Commit time for regular Board meetings held 10 times a year (attending minimum 8).
- Commit time for committee, ad hoc task force meetings and planning sessions which may include a 2 day in person provincial strategic planning meeting.
- Engage in critical thought and be committed to a vibrant future for the organization
- A lifelong learner active and interested in the EAS industry as it grows and changes.
- Prepare well for meetings, reviewing and commenting on minutes and reports
- Listen well and be thoughtful in considering issues
- Build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus
- Actively participate in the board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts
- Understand the fiscal implications of decisions
BCTRA Board Member Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership
- Be knowledgeable about the organization’s values, mission, programs and performance
- Be an ambassador for the organization and promote its work in the community
- Ensure the organization’s financial viability and sustainability
- In 2026 we are moved towards a Governance Board embracing: Purpose, People, Process, and Performance. We are building out an organizational structure to support this direction in leadership and growth across the province. Directors will play a key role in providing strategic direction and vision, fiduciary duty of oversight and accountability, and policies to support the BCTRA mission.
Orientation and training are provided to make sure directors are comfortable and knowledgeable in their role; previous board experience is an asset but not required. Experience in servicing a BCTRA committee is also preferred but not required. Candidates should be prepared to devote approximately 5-8 hours monthly to Board activities and plan for 10 monthly meetings per year.
Application and Approval: Nominees will be reviewed by the Nomination Committee. Candidates recommended for consideration will be presented to the membership. Successful candidates must sign a Consent to Act form indicating that they follow The Society Act of BC bylaws for eligibility.
