Meet Zachary Lahay – BC Summer Games Participant

We would like to introduce to you Zachary Lahay from Victoria  one of this year’s para-equestrian participants in the 2018 BC Summer Games in Cowichan, BC July 19-22.

How long have you been riding?

I have been riding since I was four years old.

How and where did you get involved?

I started riding at TROtt (Therapeutic Riding Ottawa) to help with my cerebral palsy.  When my family moved to Victoria we continued riding with Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association (VTRA).

Are you associated with one of our member centres?

I now ride with Stella French at Manestream.

What are you most looking forward to at the Summer Games?

I am looking forward to competing at the provincial level for my first time and having fun meeting all of the other competitors from all sports.

Tell us about your horse:

My horse Leena is a Halflinger.  She has a quirky personality and can be annoying at times, but after a spook, she always checks to see if I am okay.

Introduce us to your team:

Stella French and Kim Scott are my coaches, my mom Jolene and dad Paul, support me with riding and encourage me to try my best.  I have a team of physiotherapists at Neuromotion physiotherapy who keep me moving and strong.  I also have a vision therapy team who helped me see better.  My friend Laura helps whenever my Dad cannot give me a ride.  The other riders at Manestream all work together to be a part of my team as well.
